The Buddha said to his father the king: "These monks in a past life, with an evil mind, slandered the correct Dharma of the Buddha. Merely for the sake of their father did they recite 'Homage to the Buddha.' Life after life they were constantly able to hear the names of the Buddhas, until in this present life they encountered my appearance, saw the Buddha's form-body and saw the Saṅgha, heard what the Buddha taught, and repented their manifold sins. Because of repenting, their various obstacles were eliminated; because their obstacles were eliminated, they became arhats."
