The Buddha told Ānanda: “Uphold these words and be careful not to forget them. Tell all the bhikṣus to practice this matter. After the Buddha’s parinirvāṇa, if the Buddha’s disciples hear these words and reflect upon this Dharma, possess right mindfulness, possess right absorption, are unmoved in samādhi, do not slacken or regress in their minds, and give rise to the Mahāyāna, you should know that such persons will constantly see this light in their dreams and will also hear the transformation Buddhas preach the Dharma of the benevolent mind. Upon awakening, they will remember and retain it and deeply understand its principles and tenets. Because they reflect upon its principles, they will immediately attain the concentration of benevolence. One who contemplates in this way is termed one who practices right contemplation; if one contemplates otherwise, it is termed wrong contemplation. After the Buddha’s parinirvāṇa, the Buddha’s disciples who reflect upon this Dharma and uphold this Dharma—you should know that the minds of these persons will be pure like the minds of all Buddhas, eliminating the sins of birth and death of a hundred million kalpas; they will constantly be born in the Brahmā world, encounter Buddhas, and entreat them to turn the wheel of the Dharma. Having heard the Dharma, they will give rise to bodhicitta and will certainly achieve the Buddha Way in future ages.”
