"At that time, there are iron birds in the air that spit fire from their beaks and descend from the sky, cracking their skulls and pecking at their brains, so that the sinner immediately dies. After their life ends, the hell-wardens strike the ground with iron pitchforks and call out: 'Live! Live!' At the sound, they immediately revive. Having arisen, they reflect: 'A great fire blazes fiercely upon my body now; I wish to obtain the former ice to extinguish this fire.' The hell-wardens again greet them with ice wheels and cast them into the hell, so that there is none of the eighteen compartments they do not pass through. The measure of lifespan in years in this cold hell is eighty million years according to the days and months of the Four Heavenly Kings. Once their sin is exhausted, they are born among lowly people, impoverished and despised, serving as slaves to others for five hundred lifetimes, with clothes that do not cover their forms and food that does not fill their mouths. Once this sin is exhausted, they meet a kalyāṇamitra and arouse bodhicitta."
