The Buddha told Ānanda: 'From this day forward, uphold the Tathāgata's words and proclaim them everywhere to the disciples: "After the Buddha's parinirvāṇa, create fine images, making their bodily marks complete. Also make the physical forms of immeasurable transformation Buddhas, the light encompassing their whole bodies, and paint the Buddha's footprints; with exquisite pigments and crystal gems, place them at the site of the white curl, so that sentient beings may see this mark. Merely by seeing this mark and giving rise to joy in their hearts, such persons will eradicate the offenses of birth-and-death for a hundred billion nayutas of Ganges-sands kalpas."' Having spoken these words, the Tathāgata returned to his seat.
