After the Buddha's parinirvāṇa, those who contemplate the Buddha's shadow as I have spoken are called those who truly contemplate the Tathāgata sitting. Those who contemplate the Tathāgata sitting are no different from seeing the Buddha's body; it eliminates the sins of birth and death of hundreds of thousands of kalpas. If they are unable to see it, they should enter a stūpa and contemplate all sitting images. Having seen the sitting images, they should repent of their obscuring sins. By the merit of this person's condition of contemplating the image, when Maitreya appears in the world, they will see Maitreya Buddha initially sitting cross-legged beneath the dragon-flower tree; having seen him, they will rejoice, and according to their vows they will awaken to the three kinds of bodhi.
