Then the Venerable Ānanda, through the Buddha's supernatural power, remembered on his own the matters of countless kalpas in his past lives. He said to the Buddha: "Bhagavat, I recall that countless koṭis of kalpas ago, there was a Buddha, a Bhagavat named Candrasūryapradīpa, fully endowed with the ten titles. In that life, I saw that Buddha, the Tathāgata, emit a great illumination. Its light shone universally upon the worlds of the ten directions, turning them all golden. Within each ray of light there were transformation Buddhas. Having seen this, I rejoiced in body and mind and exclaimed, 'Namo Buddhāya!' From that time onward, I have constantly encountered hundreds of thousands of Buddhas and heard them preach the Dharma, retaining and never forgetting it, just like water poured from one vessel into another. It is for this reason that I am now able to see the Bhagavat and serve him in person." Having spoken these words, he uttered verses praising the exquisite rūpakāyas of the Buddhas.
