Mañjuśrī addressed the great assembly, speaking to the Venerable Ānanda: “Ānanda, you should know that I recall in the past, immeasurable kalpas ago, and twice as many inconceivable, unreckonable asaṃkhyeya kalpas before that, there was a Buddha in that world named Precious Majestic Virtue, Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, Vidyācaraṇasampanna, Sugata, Lokavid, Anuttara, Puruṣadamyasārathi, Śāstādevamanuṣyāṇām, Buddha, Bhagavān! When that Buddha appeared, sentient beings were corrupt and evil, no different from now. That Buddha, the Bhagavat, was also sixteen feet tall with a purplish-golden body, and expounded the Dharma of the three vehicles just like Śākyamuni. At that time, in that country there was a great elder named Sarvadāna. The elder had a son named Śīlagupta. While he was in his mother's womb, because of his mother's faith and reverence, she took the three refuges in advance on behalf of her son. After the son was born and reached the age of eight, his parents invited the Buddha to their home to make offerings. The boy saw the Buddha walking serenely with slow steps, flowers springing up beneath his feet with great radiance. Having seen this, he rejoiced and paid homage to the Buddha. After paying homage, he gazed attentively without looking away for even a moment. Having once seen the Buddha, he was able to eliminate the transgressions of birth and death for hundreds of millions of nayutas of kalpas. From that time on, he constantly encountered Buddhas as numerous as the sands of hundreds of billions of nayutas of Ganges Rivers, planting many roots of virtue in the presence of those Buddhas. All those Bhagavats expounded this buddhānusmṛti-samādhi, praised the light of the ūrṇā mark of a great man, and exhorted many sentient beings to repent and focus their mindfulness.
