The Buddha said: "Formerly, there was a monk sitting in meditation and practicing the Way. The Buddha's younger brother Nanda was drunk with wine and repeatedly came to his side singing and jesting. The monk addressed the Buddha, saying: 'I wish to avoid him and leave.' The Buddha said: 'No need; this Nanda will now attain stream-entry.' The Buddha then sent Ānanda to his home, with Mahākāśyapa following behind him. Śāriputra explained the scriptures to him, and Maudgalyāyana displayed supernatural powers; Nanda then rejoiced and immediately attained stream-entry. The Buddha said that when a monk practices the Way, if he only keeps a steadfast mind, why worry that he will not attain the Way? Hearing the Buddha speak these words, the monk's mind opened in delight, and he attained arhatship."
