「通中鬲五，用斷五道苦惱輪迴，修五根、具五力、除五蓋、散五陰，得五分法身，故立五也。

"Including the central partition there are five, used to cut off the painful samsāra of the five destinies, cultivate the five faculties, possess the five powers, eliminate the five hindrances, disperse the five aggregates, and attain the fivefold Dharma-body; therefore five is established.
