「通鬲鑽八，用念八正道，得八解脫，除滅八難，故用八也。略說錫杖其義如是！汝當善持。」

"Including the partitions and ferrule there are eight, used to be mindful of the eightfold noble path, attain the eight liberations, and eliminate the eight difficulties; therefore eight is used. In brief, such are the meanings of the ringing staff! You should uphold it well."
