Thereupon, the bodhisattva Samantaprabodha rose from his seat in the midst of the great assembly, bowed his head at the Buddha's feet, circumambulated him three times to the right, knelt on both knees with palms joined, and addressed the Buddha, saying: "O Bhagavat of Great Compassion! You have delightfully expounded the illnesses of dhyāna, causing the great assembly to attain what they had never had before, their minds cleared away to obtain great peace. Bhagavat, sentient beings of the latter age are increasingly distant from the Buddha; the wise and holy remain hidden, while false dharmas blaze fiercely. Whom should sentient beings be made to seek? What dharma should they rely on? What practice should they perform? What illnesses should they eliminate? How should they arouse their minds so that those who are blind will not fall into false views?" Having spoken these words, he threw his five limbs to the ground, repeating this plea three times from beginning to end.
