"Kulaputra, even the realm perfected by the śrāvakas, wherein body, mind, and speech are entirely cut off and extinguished, ultimately cannot reach the nirvāṇa manifested by personal realization; how much less could one measure the Tathāgata's realm of perfect enlightenment using a mind of discursive thought! It is like taking a firefly's light to burn Mount Sumeru—it can never ignite it. Using a saṃsāric mind to generate saṃsāric views and enter the Tathāgata's great sea of quiescence is something that can never be achieved. For this reason, I say that all bodhisattvas and sentient beings of the latter age must first sever the root of beginningless transmigration. Kulaputra, contrived discursive thinking arises from the conceptualizing mind; these are all the six dusts, the conditioned vapors of false thought, not the true essence of mind, and are already like flowers in the sky. To use this discursive thought to discern the Buddha's realm is like flowers in the sky further bearing sky-fruit—a proliferation of false thoughts that is entirely impossible. Kulaputra, a false and floating mind has many clever views and cannot accomplish the upāya of perfect enlightenment. Such discrimination does not constitute a proper inquiry."
