"Kulaputra, it is like cataracts of illusion mistakenly seeing flowers in the sky: once the cataracts of illusion are removed, one cannot say, 'Now that these cataracts have ceased, when will all cataracts arise again?' Why is this? Because cataracts and flowers are two phenomena that are not mutually dependent. It is also like flowers in the sky ceasing in empty space: one cannot say, 'When will empty space give rise to flowers in the sky again?' Why is this? Because space originally has no flowers; they are not something that arises and ceases. Saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are identical to arising and cessation; marvelous enlightenment's perfect illumination is free from both flowers and cataracts. Kulaputra, you should know that empty space is neither temporarily existent nor temporarily non-existent; how much more so is the Tathāgata's perfect enlightenment, which accords with it and forms the equal, original nature of empty space!
