"Vajragarbha, you should know
That the Tathāgata's nature of quiescence
Has never had a beginning or an end.
If, with a saṃsāric mind,
Discursive thought is applied, it only spins in circles,
Reaching only the bounds of transmigration,
Unable to enter the Buddha's ocean.
It is like smelting gold ore:
The gold does not exist because of the smelting;
Though it was originally gold,
It is ultimately brought to completion through smelting.
Once it has become the essence of true gold,
It does not turn into ore again.
Saṃsāra and nirvāṇa,
Ordinary beings and the Buddhas,
Are alike the marks of sky-flowers.
Discursive thinking is still like an illusion;
How much more so questioning what is unreal?
If one can understand this mind,
Only then should one seek perfect enlightenment."
