"Kulaputra, if bodhisattvas awaken to pure, perfect enlightenment, with the pure mind of enlightenment they know that the nature of the mind of enlightenment as well as the faculties and dusts are all due to illusory transformation; they then give rise to illusions in order to eliminate what is illusory, transforming various illusions to enlighten the illusory multitudes. By giving rise to illusions, they are internally able to produce the pliancy of great compassion; from this, all bodhisattvas initiate practice and gradually advance. Because that contemplation of illusion is not identical to illusion, and because the non-identical contemplation of illusion is itself entirely illusory, illusory marks are forever left behind; this wonderful practice perfected by the bodhisattvas is like sprouts growing from the earth. This upāya is named samāpatti.
