Nidassanatthena – ‘‘nāhaṃ sayambhū, na mayā idaṃ sacchikata’’nti attānaṃ parimocento – ‘evaṃ me sutaṃ’, ‘mayāpi evaṃ suta’nti idāni vattabbaṃ sakalaṃ suttaṃ nidasseti.

In the sense of illustration, releasing himself [from authorship]: ‘I am not self-awakened; this was not directly realized by me’—with ‘Thus have I heard’ and ‘It was thus heard by me too,’ he illustrates the entire discourse that is now to be spoken.
