Idha pana mayā sutanti ca, mama sutanti ca atthadvaye yujjati.

The word me is seen in three senses. For indeed, in such passages as: ‘Food chanted over with verses is not to be eaten by me’ (Sn 81), its meaning is ‘by me’ (mayā). In such passages as: ‘It would be good, venerable sir, if the Blessed One would teach me the Dhamma in brief’ (SN 4.88), its meaning is ‘to me’ (mayhaṃ). In such passages as: ‘Be heirs to my Dhamma, monks’ (MN 1.29), its meaning is ‘my’ (mama). Here, however, it is fitting in the two meanings: ‘heard by me’ and ‘my hearing.’
