In phrases such as "marks of gems": a gem of this sort is praised, of this sort unpraised; it is a cause for the master's health, authority, and so forth, or it is not—in this way, the meaning is that they dwell engaged in [interpreting] the marks of gems and so forth by way of color, shape, and so forth. Therein, "weapons" refers to the remaining weapons, setting aside swords and the like. Marks of women and so forth are also to be understood entirely according to the prosperity or decline of the family in which those women, men, and others live. But in the case of marks of goats and so forth, this distinction is to be understood: the meat of such goats and so forth is to be eaten; the meat of such sorts is not to be eaten.
