Tattha ambalaṭṭhikāti rañño uyyānaṃ. Tassa kira dvārasamīpe taruṇaambarukkho atthi, taṃ ‘‘ambalaṭṭhikā’’ti vadanti. Tassa avidūre bhavattā uyyānampi ambalaṭṭhikā tveva saṅkhyaṃ gataṃ. Taṃ chāyūdakasampannaṃ pākāraparikkhittaṃ suyojitadvāraṃ mañjusā viya suguttaṃ. Tattha rañño kīḷanatthaṃ paṭibhānacittavicittaṃ agāraṃ akaṃsu. Taṃ ‘‘rājāgāraka’’nti vuccati.

Here, “Ambalaṭṭhikā” means the king's park. Near its gate, it is said, there is a young mango tree, and they call it “Ambalaṭṭhikā” (mango sapling). Because it is not far from that, the park too has come to be designated as “Ambalaṭṭhikā.” It is rich in shade and water, enclosed by a wall, with a well-fitted gate, and well-guarded like a chest. There, for the king’s amusement, they built a house adorned with clever paintings. That is called the “royal resthouse.”
