Na maratīti amarā. Kā sā? Evantipi me notiādinā nayena pariyantarahitā diṭṭhigatikassa diṭṭhi ceva vācā ca. Vividho khepoti vikkhepo, amarāya diṭṭhiyā vācāya ca vikkhepoti amarāvikkhepo, so etesaṃ atthīti amarāvikkhepikā, aparo nayo – amarā nāma ekā macchajāti, sā ummujjananimujjanādivasena udake sandhāvamānā gahetuṃ na sakkāti, evameva ayampi vādo itocito ca sandhāvati, gāhaṃ na upagacchatīti amarāvikkhepoti vuccati. So etesaṃ atthīti amarāvikkhepikā.
"It does not die," thus it is an eel (amarā). What is that? Both the view and the speech of a holder of views which is boundless, according to the method beginning with: "I do not think so." Diverse tossing about is wriggling (vikkhepa); the wriggling of deathless view and speech is 'eel-wriggling' (amarāvikkhepa); those who have this are 'eel-wrigglers' (amarāvikkhepikā). Another method: an amarā is a kind of fish; it cannot be caught when running around in the water by way of emerging, diving, and so on; even so, this doctrine too runs around this way and that, and does not come to grasp; thus it is called 'eel-wriggling'. Those who have this are 'eel-wrigglers'.
