In ‘in an auspicious aeon,’ the Blessed One said this while praising this aeon as a beautiful aeon, an excellent aeon, because it is adorned with the arising of five Buddhas. For ever since our Blessed One made his aspiration, within this interval there is no single aeon in which five Buddhas have arisen. But prior to our Blessed One’s aspiration, four Buddhas—Taṇhaṅkara, Medhaṅkara, Saraṇaṅkara, and Dīpaṅkara—arose in a single aeon. Below them, for one incalculable period, [the world] was completely devoid of Buddhas.
