'Sāla' means the sāla tree. Its measurement too was the very same, and its majestic splendor of flowers should be understood in just the same way. The same method applies to the sirīsa tree. On the udumbara tree there were no flowers, but its abundance of fruits should be understood in the manner stated for the mango; so too with the banyan tree, and so too with the assattha tree. Thus for all Buddhas the seat is single, but the trees are different. Among them, whatever tree it is at whose foot the Buddhas penetrate the awakening known as the knowledge of the four paths, that tree is called the Bodhi tree. This is called the definition of the Bodhi tree.
