Kapilavatthuvāsino bhagavantaṃ disvāva – ‘‘amhākaṃ ñātiseṭṭho satthā āgato, diṭṭho nu kho tena amhākaṃ kalahakāraṇabhāvo’’ti cintetvā – ‘‘na kho pana sakkā bhagavati āgate amhehi parassa sarīre satthaṃ pātetuṃ, koliyanagaravāsino amhe hanantu vā pacantu vā’’ti āvudhāni chaḍḍetvā bhagavantaṃ vanditvā nisīdiṃsu. Koliyanagaravāsinopi tatheva cintetvā āvudhāni chaḍḍetvā bhagavantaṃ vanditvā nisīdiṃsu.

As soon as the residents of Kapilavatthu saw the Blessed One, they thought: “Our supreme kinsman, the Teacher, has arrived. Has he seen our state of quarreling?” And having thought: “Now that the Blessed One has arrived, it is not possible for us to strike another's body with a weapon; let the residents of the city of Koliya kill us or roast us,” they threw down their weapons, paid homage to the Blessed One, and sat down. The residents of the city of Koliya, having thought the very same thing, also threw down their weapons, paid homage to the Blessed One, and sat down.
