“Then came the nāgas from Lake Nāgasa, and those from Vesālī together with Tacchaka” (athāguṃ nāgasā nāgā, vesālā sahatacchakā): the meaning is that the nāgas dwelling in Lake Nāgasa and those dwelling in Vesālī came together with the retinue of the nāga Tacchaka. “Kambalas and Assataras” (kambalassatarā): both Kambala and Assatara. They live, it is said, at the foot of Mount Sineru, nāgas of great influence whom even the supaṇṇas cannot carry off. “Those from Payāga with their kinsmen” (pāyāgā saha ñātibhi): those dwelling at the Payāga crossing came together with the assembly of their kinsmen.
