Paṭisammodatīti ‘‘saṃsandati kho te’’tiādīni vadanto bhagavā sammodati, pañcasikho paṭisammodati. Gāthā ca bhāsanto pañcasikho sammodati, bhagavā paṭisammodati. Āmantesīti jānāpesi. Tassa kirevaṃ ahosi ‘‘ayaṃ pañcasikho mayā mama kammena pesito attano kammaṃ karoti. Evarūpassa satthu santike ṭhatvā kāmaguṇūpasañhitaṃ ananucchavikaṃ kathesi, naṭā nāma nillajjā honti, kathento vippakārampi dasseyya, handa naṃ mama kammaṃ jānāpemī’’ti cintetvā āmantesi.
"Rejoices with" (paṭisammodati): the Blessed One rejoices saying "It harmonizes indeed with your..." and so forth, and Pañcasikha rejoices in return. And reciting verses, Pañcasikha rejoices, and the Blessed One rejoices in return. "Addressed" (āmantesi): made known. To him, it is said, it occurred: "This Pañcasikha, sent by me on my business, is doing his own business! Standing near a Teacher of such stature, he speaks of what is connected with the strands of sensual pleasure, which is improper; actors indeed are shameless, and speaking, he might even show misconduct; well then, let me make my business known to him!"—having thought thus, he addressed him.
