24.7

Ekamidāhanti iminā kiṃ dasseti? Idaṃ suttaṃ dvīhi padehi ābaddhaṃ iddhipāṭihāriyaṃ na karotīti ca aggaññaṃ na paññapetīti ca. Tattha ‘‘aggaññaṃ na paññapetī’’ti idaṃ padaṃ suttapariyosāne dassessati. ‘‘Pāṭihāriyaṃ na karotī’’ti imassa pana padassa anusandhidassanavasena ayaṃ desanā āraddhā.

“Once I” (ekamidāhaṃ)—what is shown by this? This sutta is tied to two phrases: “he does not perform a psychic miracle” and “he does not declare the beginning of things.” There, the phrase “he does not declare the beginning of things” will be shown at the end of the sutta. But this teaching was begun by way of showing the connection to this phrase: “he does not perform a miracle.”
