Attānukkaṃsetīti ‘‘ko mayā sadiso atthī’’ti attānaṃ ukkaṃsati ukkhipati. Paraṃ vambhetīti ‘‘ayaṃ na mādiso’’ti paraṃ saṃhāreti avakkhipati.

“He exalts himself” means he elevates and raises himself, thinking, “Who is equal to me?” “He disparages others” means he puts down and lowers another, thinking, “This person is not like me.”
