Here, wholesome action is twofold: leading to the round of rebirths (vaṭṭagāmī) and leading to the cessation of the round (vivaṭṭagāmī). Therein, what is called the wholesome leading to the round of rebirths is the gentle and tender mind arisen through affection between parents and sons and daughters, and between sons and daughters and parents. The wholesome leading to the cessation of the round refers to the thirty-seven factors of awakening divided into ‘the four establishments of mindfulness’ and so on. Among them, the culmination of merit leading to the round of rebirths is the glorious majesty of a wheel-turning monarch in the human world; [the culmination] of the wholesome leading to the cessation of the round is the attainment of the paths, fruits, and Nibbāna. There, he will show the result of the wholesome leading to the cessation of the round at the conclusion of the discourse.
