Idāni tamevatthaṃ lokasammatassa brahmunopi vacanadassanānusārena daḷhaṃ katvā dassento imesañhi vāseṭṭha catunnaṃ vaṇṇānantiādimāha. ‘‘Brahmunāpesā’’tiādi ambaṭṭhasutte vitthāritaṃ. Iti bhagavā ettakena iminā kathāmaggena seṭṭhacchedakavādameva dassetvā suttantaṃ vinivattetvā arahattanikūṭena desanaṃ niṭṭhāpesi. Attamanā vāseṭṭhabhāradvājāti vāseṭṭhabhāradvāja sāmaṇerāpi hi sakamanā tuṭṭhamanā ‘‘sādhu, sādhū’’ti bhagavato bhāsitaṃ abhinandiṃsu. Idameva suttantaṃ āvajjantā anumajjantā saha paṭisambhidāhi arahattaṃ pāpuṇiṃsūti.

Now, confirming that same meaning according to the stated word of Brahmā, who is acknowledged by the world, he spoke the words beginning: "Indeed, for these four classes, Vāseṭṭha..." The passage beginning "Even by Brahmā..." has been explained in the Ambaṭṭha Sutta. Thus, through this much course of discourse, having displayed the doctrine that refutes superiority, having turned the discourse around, the Blessed One concluded the exposition with arahantship as the pinnacle. "Elated, Vāseṭṭha and Bhāradvāja..."—for the novices Vāseṭṭha and Bhāradvāja, pleased and delighted, rejoiced in the word of the Blessed One, saying: "Sadhu, sadhu!" Contemplating and thoroughly investigating this very discourse, they attained arahantship along with the analytical knowledges.
