Tādisanti tumhādisaṃ. Atthupetanti atthena upetaṃ atthassa viññātāraṃ. Byañjanupetanti byañjanehi upetaṃ byañjanānaṃ viññātāraṃ. Evaṃ etaṃ bhikkhuṃ pasaṃsatha. Eso hi bhikkhu na tumhākaṃ sāvako nāma, buddho nāma esa cundāti. Iti bhagavā bahussutaṃ bhikkhuṃ attano ṭhāne ṭhapesi.
“Such a one” (tādisaṃ) means one like you. “Possessing the meaning” (atthupetaṃ) means endowed with the meaning, an understander of the meaning. “Possessing the phrasing” (byañjanupetaṃ) means endowed with the phrasings, an understander of the phrasings. “Thus you should praise this monk; for this monk is not your mere disciple, Cunda, he is called a Buddha.” Thus the Blessed One placed the learned monk in his own position.
