In 'This is suffering,' and so forth: leaving craving aside, the remaining states pertaining to the three planes are explained as 'This is suffering.' Craving, which produces and generates that very suffering, is explained as 'the origin of suffering.' The non-occurrence of both is explained as 'the cessation of suffering.' The noble path, which fully understands suffering, abandons its origin, and realizes its cessation, is explained as 'the practice leading to the cessation of suffering.' In 'For this, friend, is connected with benefit,' and so forth, the meaning is: this is based on the benefit of this world and the next world, based on the nine supramundane Dhammas, and is the beginning, the chief, and the precursor of the entire spiritual life of the Dispensation.
