Rūpanti cattāro ca mahābhūtā catunnañca mahābhūtānaṃ upādāya rūpaṃ, taṃ sabbampi ruppanaṭṭhena rūpaṃ. Tassa vitthārakathā visuddhimagge vuttanayeneva veditabbā.

‘Form’ means the four great essentials and the form derived from the four great essentials; all of that is ‘form’ in the sense of being afflicted (ruppana). The detailed explanation of this should be understood precisely in the manner stated in the Visuddhimagga.
