"Bases of liberation" (vimuttāyatanāni): causes for liberation. "Experiencing the meaning" (atthapaṭisaṃvedino): for one knowing the meaning of the Pāli. "Experiencing the Dhamma" (dhammapaṭisaṃvedino): for one knowing the Pāli. "Gladness" (pāmojjaṃ): tender joy. "Joy" (pīti): strong joy in the form of satisfaction. "Body" (kāyo): the mental body becomes tranquil. "He experiences pleasure" (sukhaṃ vedayati): he obtains pleasure. "The mind is concentrated" (cittaṃ samādhiyati): it is concentrated with the concentration of the fruit of arahantship. For this person, hearing that Dhamma, knows at every point mentioned the absorptions, insights, paths, and fruits; as he knows thus, joy arises. Not allowing himself to fall back in the midst of that joy, becoming one who possesses a meditation subject of access [concentration], having expanded insight, he attains arahantship. Referring to that, it is said: "the mind is concentrated." In the remaining cases as well, this is the method. This, however, is the distinction: "the sign of concentration" (samādhinimittaṃ): concentration itself among the thirty-eight meditation objects is the sign of concentration. In "it is well grasped" (suggahitaṃ hoti) and so on, it is well grasped by one learning the meditation subject in the presence of a teacher. "Well attended to" (suṭṭhu manasikataṃ): well considered. "Well penetrated by wisdom" (suppaṭividdhaṃ paññāya): well directly realized by wisdom. "In that Dhamma" (tasmiṃ dhamme): in that Pāli Dhamma of the meditation subject.
