Having thus shown the essence of concord by way of sets of five, he began the teaching again in order to show it now by way of sets of six. Therein, 'internal' means belonging to oneself. 'External' means outside of that belonging to oneself. But an exposition of the sense bases in full has indeed been spoken in the Path of Purification. 'Classes of consciousness' means groups of consciousness. 'Eye-consciousness' means the wholesome and unwholesome result-consciousness supported by the eye sensitivity. This is the method everywhere. 'Eye-contact' means contact supported by the eye. In the case of ear-contact and the rest, this very method applies. 'Mind-contact' means: setting aside these ten contacts, all the rest is called mind-contact. The set of six feelings is also to be understood by this very method. 'Perception of sights' means perception arisen having taken a sight as object. By this approach the rest are also to be understood. In the set of six volitions as well, this very method applies. Likewise in the set of six cravings.
