Nissaraṇiyā dhātuyoti nissaṭadhātuyova. Pariyādāya tiṭṭhatīti pariyādiyitvā hāpetvā tiṭṭhati. ‘Mā hevantissa vacanīyo’ti yasmā abhūtaṃ byākaraṇaṃ byākaroti, tasmā mā evaṃ bhaṇīti vattabbo. ‘Escape elements’ means precisely elements that have escaped. ‘Persists having consumed’ means having exhausted, having diminished, it persists. ‘He should not be told so’: since he makes an untrue declaration, he should be told: ‘Do not speak thus.’ ‘Namely, the liberation of mind through loving-kindness’: this liberation of mind through loving-kindness is the escape from ill will; the meaning is that it has escaped from ill will. But whoever, having emerged from the three or four jhānas of loving-kindness and comprehended conditioned phenomena, reaches the third path and, [seeing] ‘There is no further ill will,’ sees Nibbāna with the third fruit, for him the mind is the absolute escape from ill will. By this method the meaning is to be understood everywhere.
