‘Incomparables’ means unsurpassed, foremost. The incomparable among seeings is the incomparable seeing. In the remaining terms the method is just the same. Therein, the seeing of the elephant-jewel and so forth is not the incomparable seeing; but for one of settled faith, by virtue of settled love, the seeing of the Possessor of the Ten Powers or of the Saṅgha of monks, or of any of the kasina or foulness signs and so forth, is called the incomparable seeing. Hearing talk on the virtues of khattiyas and so forth is not the incomparable hearing; but for one of settled faith, by virtue of settled love, hearing talk on the virtues of the Three Jewels or hearing the word of the Buddha in the three Piṭakas is called the incomparable hearing. The acquisition of the gem-jewel and so forth is not the incomparable acquisition; but the acquisition of the seven kinds of noble wealth is called the incomparable acquisition. Learning elephant-craft and so forth is not the incomparable training; but fulfilling the threefold training is called the incomparable training. Attending on khattiyas and so forth is not the incomparable service; but attending on the Three Jewels is called the incomparable service. Recollecting the virtues of khattiyas and so forth is not the incomparable recollection; but recollecting the virtues of the Three Jewels is called the incomparable recollection.
