Lokassa dhammā lokadhammā. Etehi mutto nāma natthi, buddhānampi hontiyeva. Vuttampi cetaṃ – ‘‘aṭṭhime, bhikkhave, lokadhammā lokaṃ anuparivattanti, loko ca aṭṭha lokadhamme anuparivattatī’’ti (a. ni. 8.5). Lābho alābhoti lābhe āgate alābho āgato evāti veditabbo. Yasādīsupi eseva nayo.

The worldly conditions are the conditions of the world (lokadhammā). There is no one who is free from these; they occur even to the Buddhas. And this has also been said: ‘These eight worldly conditions, mendicants, revolve around the world, and the world revolves around the eight worldly conditions’ (AN 8.5). ‘Gain, loss’ (lābho alābho): when gain has arrived, it should be understood that loss has arrived as well. In the case of fame and so forth, this is the very same method.
