Na tasmiṃ gāme vāti yattha kira bhagavā paṭivasati, tattha mahesakkhā devatā ārakkhaṃ gaṇhanti, taṃ nissāya manussānaṃ upaddavo na hoti, paṃsupisācakādayoyeva hi manusse viheṭhenti, te tāsaṃ ānubhāvena dūraṃ apakkamanti. Api ca bhagavato mettābalenapi na amanussā manusse viheṭhenti.

“Nor in that village”: where the Blessed One resides, it is said that powerful deities take up protection; relying on that, there is no adversity for humans. For only the earth-goblins and the like harass humans, and by the deities' power they depart far away. Moreover, even through the power of the Blessed One's loving-kindness, non-humans do not harass humans.
