Ekacco hi dhutaṅgasamādānavasena lūkhājīvī hoti, appapuññatāya vā sakalampi gāmaṃ vicaritvā udarapūraṃ na labhati. So – ‘‘paccaye uppādessāmī’’ti vejjakammādivasena vā anesanaṃ katvā, arahattaṃ vā paṭijānitvā, tīṇi vā kuhanavatthūni paṭisevitvā niraye nibbattati.

For a certain person leads a coarse life by way of undertaking the ascetic practices, or, owing to possessing little merit, does not obtain a bellyful even after walking through the entire village. Thinking, "I will produce requisites," he engages in improper livelihood by way of practicing medicine and so forth, or falsely claims arahantship, or indulges in the three bases of deceit, and is reborn in hell.
