‘‘Candanaṃ tagaraṃ vāpi, uppalaṃ atha vassikī;
Etesaṃ gandhajātānaṃ, sīlagandho anuttaro’’ti.
55. Above and beyond all varieties of perfume,
Whether of sandal or of lotus
Or of Tagara or Vassikī flowers,
The perfume of virtue is preëminent.
