happiness here and hereafter is, it is ninefold: the bodhisattva stopping those who are in situations that should be stopped, permitting those who are in situations that should be permitted, gathering those who should be gathered, subjugating those who should be subjugated, morality endowed with generosity, morality endowed with patience, [morality] endowed with diligence, [morality] endowed with dhyāna, and morality endowed with prajñā. If one asks what pure morality is, it is tenfold: correctly received from the very beginning, not excessively depressed, not excessively lax, embraced by conscientiousness, properly made aspirational prayers, embraced by excellent conduct, embraced by an excellent livelihood, having abandoned the two extremes, definitive discernment, and not having deteriorated. The particularity of locus is abiding in all sentient beings—friends, enemies, and neutral ones—whether experiencing pleasure, pain, or neither pain nor pleasure. The particularity of the object of focus is focusing on all harms, sufferings, and reflections upon phenomena. The particularity of cause is forbearance out of an unmaterialistic mind and pure compassion. If one asks what all-embracing patience is, it is twofold: relying on the side of the householder and relying on the side of the renunciant. Furthermore, as appropriate, it is threefold: patience of forbearance toward harms done by others,
