The king placed the reins of choice in his hand,
telling him to present whichever science his heart was inclined to learn.
As fate would have it, with royal leave and permission, the vizier requested that very science of transmigration of the soul,
in the guarding of which the ascetic had enjoined him with a hundred thousand emphases.
The king was bewildered by his own plight and repented of what he had said.
He thought to himself that if he told him, he would have summoned disaster upon his own soul with his own hand;
and if he kept it hidden,
he would become known for the flaw of feebleness of counsel and breach of promise—and no trait in human character is more blameworthy than that.

become known; but since against divine destiny the competence of no rational being is of use, and helpless reason becomes naught from being,
and intellect loses the straight path of counsel, and every decree of good and evil that the pen of dominant will and effective divine volition
has inscribed upon the pages of pre-eternity must in truth come forth into appearance; and through elevation of station, height of
rank, the backing of helpers, and the support of brothers, no resistance can be made against the array of heavenly decrees; and
by observing the subtleties of stratagems, caution and avoidance are feasible for no one; and when from the chancery of destiny a patent for an affair
is issued, the sting of a weak gnat will bring ruin upon the essence of rutting mountain-bodied elephants, and the blow of a feeble
ant will cast roaring lions upon the dust of helplessness and constraint: "There is no repeller of His decree, and no changer of His judgment." Bad fortune
and an inauspicious horoscope brought him to neglect and leave unobserved the guiding advice and fortune-increasing counsel of the ascetic, and
he taught this knowledge to the vizier:
