The person who has related this affair says: “I was present in that assembly and was one of the by-standers. I had even been given the privilege of taking a seat there. I heard with my own ears and understood clearly what Aláfi said to Dahar, directly, by way of advice, and what arguments he urged in support of the usefulness of his plan. Dahar’s reply to him was: ‘Whatever suggestion springs from your mind cannot but be one for our good and well-being. But my mind suggests that I should give Muhammad Kasim the choice with regard to crossing the river, lest it be imagined by him that we are in perplexity and have become very weak and powerless.’”
