Their opinion also is that for the management of the visible and invisible world, twenty-four venerable men (ádam) come forth from the hidden universe into the apparent one, every six áras and then pass away. The name of the first of these is Adináth and they call him also Raghunáth. The sway of this chosen one of God lasts fifty krors of laks of ságaras. The name of the last is Mahávíra. His sway lasts for 20,000 years, of which 2,000 have elapsed at the present day. And the belief of this sect is that these twenty-four have come into existence many times and will come again many times.
