Scripture itself negates, and scripture itself enjoins, that Brahman is to be known through Vedānta. For when an object taught by the Veda seems inappropriate, the intellect of Vedic thinkers does not falter; rather, it investigates only the way to reconcile it. Therefore, both [statements] are to be established. The statements negating its being an object are made with the intention to express the impossibility of the result characterized by the manifest shining forth brought about by a mental modification born of the sentence; but those teaching its being an object are made with the intention to express the possibility of the result characterized by the destruction of concealment brought about by a mental modification.
