The paśu is of three kinds, owing to the division into vijñānākala, pralayākala, and sakala. Among them, the first is designated as vijñānākala when, karma having been exhausted through knowledge, yoga, renunciation, or experience, there is an absence of the bond of experience consisting of kalā and the rest which serves to exhaust karma, so that he is conjoined with mala alone. The second is spoken of as pralayākala because of the dissolution of kalā and the rest through the cosmic dissolution (pralaya), so that he is conjoined with mala and karma. The third is called sakala, being endowed with the triad of bonds consisting of mala, māyā, and karma.
