yo'pyāha—abhidheyavijñānaṃ prati kārakaheturapi śabdo yathā śaktijñānamapekṣate tathā pravṛttiśaktisaṃvidamapīti . tenā'pi na jñāpakādanyatra jñānā'pekṣā pradarśyate . jñānakarakasyaiva jñāpaka ityākhyānāt .

As for the one who also says: 'Just as a word, although a productive cause with respect to the cognition of the signified meaning, requires knowledge of expressive capacity, so too it requires consciousness of its capacity for activity'—by him too, dependence on knowledge is not shown anywhere other than in an informative indicator; for only that which produces knowledge is called an informative indicator.
