tṛtūyapādasya prathamādhikaraṇamāracayati -
aṣṭakādismṛterdharme na mātvaṃ mānatā'thavā |
nirmūlatvānna mānaṃ sā vedārthoktau nirarthatā ||
He composes the first topical section of the third quarter: / Regarding dharma, is the tradition of the Aṣṭakā and the like not valid cognition, or is it valid cognition? / It is not a means of valid cognition because it lacks a foundation; if it states the sense of the Veda, it is useless.
