If one objects: The author of the Kalpasūtra states that the new-moon sacrifice is to be performed on all lunar days: 'The new-moon sacrifice is to be performed on all lunar days.' But direct Vedic statement declares that it is to be performed only on the new-moon day. Therefore, direct Vedic statement is not a means of valid cognition, because it is contradicted by the Veda in the form of the Kalpasūtra—
Not so. The status of the Kalpa as Veda has not yet been established; rather, it is to be established with effort. And it cannot be established; for its human authorship has been established through its designation and through the perception of its author. Therefore, because the Kalpasūtra is weaker, direct Vedic statement does not lack validity.
