Mimamsasutra 3.2.31-2

3.2.31-2

daśamādhikaraṇe prathamaṃ varṇakamācarayati -
loke padāpadārthau yau na tau vede'thavā'tra tau |
rūpabhedātpadaṃ bhinnamuttānādibhidā sphuṭā ||

In the tenth topical section, he sets forth the first sub-inquiry:
Are the word and word-meaning that exist in everyday life not those in the Veda, or are they present here?
A word is different due to difference of form; the distinction of supine [cattle] and the like is evident.
